Hong Kong visual artist Matthew Tsang creates works with objects and materials as his starting points. Through integrating daily life experiences into his works, he produces visual installations reminiscent of the poetic space in Chinese landscape paintings.
This work is based on the form of the Western art installation. The interactions of object and water surface, and light and shadow, project poetic imaginaries reminiscent of Chinese landscape paintings into the exhibition space. The work aims to explore the transformation potentials of Chinese landscape paintings when combined with Western and modern features, in a three-dimensional environment. It takes the audiences from the material world to a poetic space and offers them a refreshed encounter and experience of the traditional art of Chinese landscape paintings from a modern perspective.
